My family and I have been known for using newspaper, especially the daily comics, for wrapping paper. It's cheap, easy, and the receiver gets extra comics to read!

I buy decorated, sturdy boxes (come in all sorts of shapes and sizes). The are about $2-4 dollars at a Christmas Tree-like shop. They are attractive, you don't have to wrap them, and can be ued as storage during the year. My family passes them around each year. No flimsy boxes to buy, no wrapping paper to buy. Saves time and money.
